Not much time to post now, but Lauren and I got to the big island yesterday and after seeing some of her family, we went to Volcanoes National Park. It was really cool during the day, but then as it got dark we went down to the lava viewing area - where you can watch lava flow into the ocean. There was a glowing plume half a mile away and a surface flow over a mile up the mountain!! We then went back up to the crater, which just recently collapsed so the hole got bigger....it was also glowing!! It was amazing to be on ground that is younger than I am, and see the glow of the molten lava that created the grounds we walk on! It also sparked the question - does the magma at the center of the earth ever run out of magma or is it replenished/recycled? Ok, some pictures! Will post Pearl Harbor from Wed and today's pics of Big Island later on!

Surface lava flow on mountain side

Glow of the active crater!! Scientists consider this an eruption! Only a few nights before a full moon too.
